Metin2 Editor's Review
Ymir Entertainment’s MMORPG delivers some thrills, but has begun to look a little dated.

Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Games continue to be all the rage and this early offering from Korean based Ymir Entertainment is worth checking out by fans of the genre. Set in the Oriental themed kingdoms of Shinsoo, Chunjo and Jinno, the game’s heady mix of magic and combat as players battle against the pervasive dark power of the Metin Stones provides some exciting scenarios, particularly in the early stages.
A straightforward game with a click and slash combat system more akin to arcade battlers, Metin 2 has a large continent to explore and fight across on foot and on horseback. Different awards like skill points and a PvP mode that eventually allows gamers to attack and be attacked by all gamers keeps things challenging and interesting for a while, but there are clear flaws to the game, mostly due to its age.
While the four categories of character class Warrior, Ninja, Shaman and Sura give players just enough to master for the game to remain engaging, the later stages lack unique challenges and overall the kingdoms are rather under populated. The 3D graphics are fine when it comes to the main characters, but the terrain and enemies are rather lacklustre and become repetitive after a while. Naturally, those looking for a retro experience may still enjoy what Metin 2 has to offer.
Pro's: Simple to play and with a novel fighting system, Metin 2 is extremely accessible and good fun to begin with.
Con's: There is no escaping the fact that the game is showing its age and is repetitive in the later stages. Retro gamers may be willing to overlook this.
Conclusion: Hardcore fans of MMORPGs may find Metin 2 lacking in challenge and diversity of gameplay. However, those new to MMORPGs or dedicated retro gamers may be pleasantly surprised by the amount of fun Metin 2 can be to play, particularly during combat.
